The Brief

An airport is less a place than a condition: not here, not there, not yet. Most of the experience consists of waiting. You stand in lines, sit under bright lights, take your shoes off, put them back on, and spend several hours belonging fully to neither where you came from nor where you are going.

This is part of what makes airport dressing so specific. Clothes have to negotiate comfort, utility, fatigue, temperature, and the vague hope of remaining composed while being mildly inconvenienced in public. An airport outfit is a small system for passing through.

So this week, think in layers, soft structure, and comfort you can live in for six delayed hours. Hoodies, trench coats, technical jackets, knits, tote bags, sneakers. Grey, navy, black, silver, off-white. Clothes for being between places.

Wear something that knows how to wait.

How it works

Info

Each theme is open to everyone. Post an outfit that matches the theme to enter. There is no separate entry process.

Outfits earn aura. The top outfits become finalists. Each person gets one vote. The outfit with the most votes wins and headlines the issue.

Schedule

  1. PostTue–Sat

Post your outfit any day until the end of Saturday, New York time. Outfits posted after that are not entered. Posting closes before voting opens so finalists can be selected. If it matches the theme, it automatically gets bonus aura. After that, it earns aura normally.

  2. FinalistsSun

Each day is a separate group. Your outfit only competes with outfits posted on the same day. On Sunday, the top 6 outfits from each day become finalists. There can be up to 30 finalists.

Each person can only have one finalist spot.

  3. VoteSun 12:00 PM ET – Mon

Everyone gets one vote. You cannot vote for your own outfit. You cannot change your vote after you submit it. Results are revealed when voting closes.

  4. WinnerMon

The outfit with the most votes wins and headlines the issue. The winner receives the prize.

Questions

How does my outfit get entered?

Automatically. Every outfit posted while this theme is live and before the posting cutoff in the schedule is checked against it right after you upload. If it matches and is public, it gets bonus aura, shows the theme mark on its card, and counts as an entry. There is nothing to tag or select.

The check looks at the photo only: the clothes and the silhouette, not the caption, the background, or where it was taken. Each outfit is checked once, when it is posted. An outfit that does not match still earns aura normally.

Can I change my vote?

No. You get one vote, and it is final. You cannot vote for your own outfit.

I posted more than one matching outfit on the same day. Do they all count?

Only your highest-ranked outfit from that day can become a finalist. Your other matching outfits still get the bonus aura.

When does each day start and end?

Each day runs from midnight to midnight in New York time. Your posting day only determines which group your outfit competes in.

If I post late in the day, do I get less time to earn aura?

No. Aura is counted for all outfits at the same time on Sunday. For example, an outfit posted at 11:59 PM on Tuesday can keep earning aura until Sunday.

I placed in the top 6 on more than one day. Do I get multiple finalist spots?

No. Each person can only have one finalist spot.

Your best placement counts. A #1 placement ranks above a #4 placement. If your placements are the same, the outfit with more aura counts. If those are also equal, the earlier post counts. Any extra finalist spot passes to the next eligible outfit from that day.

Do private outfits count?

Only public outfits are entered. A private outfit does not get the bonus aura, even if it matches the theme. If you make it public before finalists are selected on Sunday, it is entered then and gets the bonus aura. If a finalist becomes private during voting, it will be hidden. If it becomes public again before voting ends, it will return.

What happens if there is a tie?

The outfit with more aura wins the tie. If aura is also tied, the outfit posted earlier wins.

Will I know if I become a finalist?

Yes. Finalists get a notification when voting opens on Sunday. The winner gets a notification on Monday, when the result is announced.

Results are the final tallies recorded when each week closed. Finalists whose outfit has since been made private or deleted are not shown.
