Tricot Comme des Garçons

Tricot Comme des Garçons is a specialized sub-label of the Japanese fashion house focusing on knitwear and textile experimentation. Its aesthetic emphasizes tactile textures, intricate layering, and a softer interpretation of avant-garde design. The brand represents a subculture of intellectual femininity through deconstructed silhouettes and artisanal craftsmanship.

History

Launched in 1981 by Rei Kawakubo, the line was established to explore the technical possibilities of knitting. In 1987, Junya Watanabe assumed design responsibilities, followed by Tao Kurihara in 2002. The label integrated high-concept design elements into functional daily garments. In 2022, the brand was officially renamed to "tao" to reflect Kurihara’s creative leadership, marking a distinct evolution in the history of the Comme des Garçons ecosystem.
