Y/Project x Melissa is a collaborative footwear line merging avant-garde deconstruction with sustainable synthetic materials. The aesthetic blends historical references, such as Victorian ornamentation, with contemporary industrial production. It represents a subculture of conceptual fashion that challenges traditional luxury through the use of recyclable PVC.
History
The partnership debuted during the Y/Project Autumn/Winter 2021 collection under creative director Glenn Martens. It signifies a shift in fashion history where high-concept Parisian design integrates with Brazilian industrial manufacturing. By reimagining Melissa’s signature jelly shoe through a baroque lens, the collaboration highlights the democratization of luxury. It serves as a case study in how heritage footwear brands utilize designer partnerships to explore complex structural forms and sustainable material innovation.
