Saltrock is a British surfwear brand characterized by a coastal aesthetic and casual functional design. It represents the UK surfing subculture, emphasizing an ethos of outdoor adventure and community. The brand focuses on graphic apparel, including t-shirts and hoodies, tailored for a lifestyle centered around the ocean.
History
Founded in 1988 by brothers Angus and Ross Thomson in North Devon, Saltrock originated from a desire to fund their surfing lifestyle. The brand began by selling hand-printed t-shirts from the back of a car. It gained cultural significance as a homegrown alternative to international surf labels, contributing to the growth of the British surf industry. Saltrock transitioned from a niche local label to a national retailer, maintaining its association with the South West coastline.
