SILVERTAG

SILVERTAG is a Japanese fashion brand rooted in the 1990s Ura-Harajuku streetwear movement. Its aesthetic emphasizes utilitarian design, military influences, and high-quality construction. The brand represents a subcultural shift toward minimalist, functional garments that prioritize durability and understated craftsmanship over overt branding or logos.

Fashion History

Founded by designer Shinichiro Nakagami in the early 1990s, SILVERTAG emerged during the formative years of Tokyo’s independent streetwear scene. The brand gained cultural significance through its association with influential figures like Hiroshi Fujiwara and the Goodenough collective. It played a role in establishing the Ura-Hara aesthetic, which blended Western workwear with Japanese production standards. Although the brand eventually ceased operations, it remains a reference point for collectors of vintage Japanese menswear.
