History
Mossimo Giannulli founded the company in 1986 on Balboa Island, California, initially producing neon beach volleyball shorts. The brand expanded during the 1990s as a streetwear label. Its 2000 licensing agreement with Target marked a shift in retail history, establishing a mass-market designer collaboration model before its acquisition by Iconix Brand Group.
