History

Consuelo Castiglioni founded Marni in 1994 in Milan as an offshoot of her family’s fur business. The brand gained historical significance by repurposing fur as a versatile textile within ready-to-wear collections. Marni diverged from traditional Italian fashion tropes by focusing on architectural shapes and textile innovation rather than overt sexuality. In 2012, the OTB Group acquired the label, and Francesco Risso became creative director in 2016, continuing its experimental legacy.
