MCM is a luxury fashion house defined by its signature Cognac Visetos monogram and brass plate hardware. The brand represents a fusion of traditional German craftsmanship with contemporary global street culture. Its ethos centers on functional luxury designed for a mobile, urban lifestyle across diverse creative subcultures.
History
Michael Cromer founded MCM in Munich in 1976 during the city’s cultural renaissance. The brand initially gained prominence for its handcrafted luggage and travel accessories, becoming a symbol of the 1980s jet-set lifestyle. Following a period of decline, the South Korean Sung-Joo Group acquired the company in 2005. This transition shifted the brand’s focus toward the luxury streetwear market. MCM remains historically significant for its early integration into hip-hop fashion and its subsequent global expansion.
