Kuon

[brand]

Description

Kuon is a Japanese menswear label centered on the concept of new vintage. The brand utilizes traditional craftsmanship, specifically boro and sashiko techniques, to create contemporary garments. Its aesthetic emphasizes the beauty of imperfection and the historical value of upcycled textiles within a modern silhouette.

History

Founded in 2016 by Shinichiro Ishibashi and Arata Fujiwara, Kuon emerged from a desire to revitalize traditional Japanese textile arts. Ishibashi, formerly a pattern maker at Daiki Suzuki’s Engineered Garments, integrates historical boro fabrics into modern designs. The brand gained recognition for its social initiatives, collaborating with artisans in the Tohoku region following the 2011 earthquake. This approach positioned Kuon as a significant contributor to the global movement of sustainable, heritage-focused fashion.
