Herve Leger is a French luxury fashion house defined by its signature body-conscious aesthetic. The brand represents a subculture of high-glamour femininity through its structural bandage construction. Its ethos emphasizes the architectural shaping of the female form using elastic strips to create a sculptural silhouette.
History
Hervé Peugnet founded the house in 1985, later adopting the surname Léger at the suggestion of Karl Lagerfeld. The brand gained historical significance for pioneering the bandage dress, which utilized materials traditionally used for foundation garments. In 1998, the BCBG Max Azria Group acquired the label, marking the first time a French couturier lost the rights to his own name. The brand remains a primary reference for the body-con movement in late twentieth-century fashion.
