History

Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye in Marlboro, Massachusetts, the company is one of the oldest continuously operated footwear brands in the United States. It gained historical significance by producing boots for soldiers in the American Civil War and World War II. During the 1960s and 1970s, the brand's Campus Boot became a cultural staple, eventually being inducted into the Smithsonian Institution as a representative example of American fashion history.
