Antihero is a skateboarding brand defined by a raw, anti-establishment aesthetic. It represents a non-conformist subculture that prioritizes authentic street and transition skating over commercial appeal. The brand’s ethos centers on a gritty, DIY spirit and a rejection of traditional corporate standards within the industry.
History
Professional skateboarder Julien Stranger founded Antihero in 1995 under the Deluxe Distribution umbrella. The brand emerged as a reaction against the perceived stagnation and commercialization of skateboarding during the mid-1990s. It gained cultural significance through its influential team and the iconic eagle logo created by artist Todd Francis. Antihero remains a foundational entity in skate history, maintaining a reputation for preserving the sport’s rebellious and unpolished roots.
