Amapolay

Amapolay is a Peruvian graphic collective and fashion brand rooted in the Chicha aesthetic. It utilizes screen-printing techniques to represent urban Lima’s popular culture and psychedelic cumbia traditions. The brand’s ethos focuses on reclaiming working-class visual identities through bold typography and vibrant, neon-colored designs.

History

Founded in 2008 by Fernando Castro and Carol Fernández, Amapolay emerged from the graphic workshops of Lima. The brand documents the migration and cultural hybridization of Peru through its visual output. It played a significant role in elevating Chicha art from marginalized street posters to recognized contemporary design. By archiving and reinterpreting traditional motifs, the collective preserves the history of Peruvian popular graphics within a modern fashion and artistic framework.
