Salewa began in 1935 in Bolzano, in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy, as a company making climbing equipment for the local mountain community. Its roots grew out of the Alpine climbing culture of the Dolomites, where practical gear was shaped by the needs of people who spent long days on steep rock and snow. Over the decades the brand kept close ties to mountaineers, guides, and outdoor athletes who tested its products in harsh conditions.
