Ben Sherman was founded in 1963 in London by Ben Sherman, a Jewish émigré from Eastern Europe, who opened a shop on Brick Lane selling shirts with button-down collars and coloured fabrics. Its shirts became a recognisable element of British youth fashion, and the company has since changed ownership several times while continuing to operate as a menswear label.
