Founded by George Thomas Hawkins in Northampton during the mid-nineteenth century, the company became a prominent supplier for the British military and high-profile expeditions. It gained historical significance by providing footwear for the 1953 Everest ascent. While the original British factory closed in the late twentieth century, the brand name was acquired by a Japanese retailer. It remains a staple in the Japanese market, bridging the gap between historical military heritage and contemporary casual fashion.
